Chairperson Chito Gascon Demands CHR Budget Back in 2018
(CHR) Chairperson Chito Gascon has a lot of controversial issues to these days. In this new, unpredictable functions of Commission on Human Rights, many Filipinos questioned the roles of human rights advocates and their ways to work together to protect the rights of the people not only the criminals but also the victims of various crimes committed by the perpetrators.
In a blog post of Mr. Alon Calinao Dy, he said, “I think CHR Chairperson Chito Gascon should know his roles that he needs to protect the rights and welfare of the true victims and not the criminals alone. What we see on (CHR) Commission on Human Rights advocates is that they are more affected if criminals’ rights are being violated by the law enforcers than those real victims of certain crimes.”
Gascon has been the subject of criticism by many Filipinos as they called for his immediate resignation because he had no idea what’s his role as a CHR Chairperson. Still, Gascon didn’t bother to resign from his office and give chance for others who are willing to save his post and the integrity of Commission on Human Rights.
It’s time to change the old and corrupt system in CHR because Filipinos already doubted its integrity and functions. What’s the use of CHR if people do not respect and trust this organization? Indeed, a measure of change among Human Rights advocates should start from their leaders and its ability to define what’s really their roles in order to get their work done that Filipinos would never doubt about them.
A 1000 pesos budget? This means that Commission on Human Rights advocates should examine their roles and functions carefully. And and this question, why Filipinos do not trust CHR advocates anymore? Show real interest that this organization really care for the people especially for the victims of different criminal activities.
In a famous quote of Mr. Alon Calinao Dy, he said, “if you want respect, show it to yourself,” and this quote goes to everyone. It’s true what President Rodrigo Duterte said that as long as people are doing their work honestly, then people would appreciate and love you.
If Gascon demands for a CHR budget in 2018, then he should make an extra effort to make Filipinos proud especially for those real victims of various crimes. If not, he should resign immediately as there’s always a position for the right person to save the respect and integrity of Commission on Human Rights.
